Plan Your Tour

A little preparation makes a day in the Smokies more comfortable, flexible, and enjoyable.

What to Expect

Our Smoky Mountain creation tours combine scenic travel, field stops, short periods of walking, and engaging biblical creation teaching in the landscape itself.

A Teaching-Focused Experience

Expect more than sightseeing. Your guide will connect what you see with geology, ecology, wildlife, regional history, Scripture, and the larger story of the Smokies.

Time Outside the Vehicle

Depending on the route, stops may include overlooks, roadside geology, streams, historic areas, and short walks. Review your specific tour details so you know what level of activity to expect.

Guests of All Backgrounds

Canyon Ministries is a Christian organization with a biblical, young-earth creation perspective. Guests from all backgrounds are welcome, including people who do not share our beliefs.

A Conversational Tour

Ask questions. Our guides are there to teach, but the best tours invite questions and conversation. If something in the landscape catches your attention, bring it into the conversation.

Preparing for Mountain Conditions

Conditions in Great Smoky Mountains National Park can change quickly, especially with elevation.

Weather

Check the forecast and be ready for changing temperatures, clouds, wind, or rain during the day.

Footwear

Wear comfortable footwear for outdoor stops and uneven ground, and check your tour confirmation for added needs.

Water & Food

Bring water and any food needed for your tour, since services can be limited once you are inside the park.

Cameras & Binoculars

Bring a camera or binoculars if you like; both are useful for wildlife and distant landscape features.

Before You Leave for the Park

Review the page for the tour you booked before your tour date. Route-specific information such as meeting instructions, timing, walking expectations, and anything unusual you need to bring should always take priority over general advice on this page.

Cell coverage can be inconsistent in mountain areas, so save any directions or meeting info you need before the tour day. Arrive with enough time that traffic, parking, or unfamiliar roads do not turn the beginning of the day into a rush.

If you have questions about mobility, age suitability, weather, group needs, or anything else that may affect your experience, contact us before the tour. It is much easier to make good plans in advance than at the meeting point.

Come ready to see things from a different view

The best preparation is one you can make in your heart, as you get ready to experience the Smokies as more than just scenery.
