Smoky Mountain Creation Tours

Guided biblical creation tours in Great Smoky Mountains National Park,
combining unforgettable scenery with engaging teaching in geology, biology, history, and Scripture.

See more than the scenery

There Is More to the Smokies Than a Beautiful View

Millions of people come to Great Smoky Mountains National Park for misty ridges, rushing streams, wildlife, waterfalls, historic cabins, and some of the most beautiful forests in North America. But the mountains become even more interesting when someone helps you understand what you are looking at.

Why are these mountains shaped the way they are? What happened to the rocks beneath the forest? Why is this region so rich in plants and animals? What can folded rock layers, mountain streams, forests, and wildlife tell us about the history of the landscape?

What Is a Biblical Creation Tour?

Our knowledgeable, personable guides bring the Smokies to life with fascinating stories, lively conversation, and a biblical perspective on creation. Along the way, we explore the rock layers and mountain-building processes associated with the Genesis Flood, discover remarkable plants and wildlife, and share the stories of Appalachian settlers and churches. It's an adventure designed to be as enjoyable as it is educational. Our interpretation is explicitly biblical and young-earth, including a recent creation and the global Genesis Flood. Guests do not need to share our beliefs to join us. We welcome questions, conversation, and people from all backgrounds.

What a Day With Us Feels Like

A tour may begin beneath a hardwood forest, climb through changing ecological zones, stop beside folded or layered rock, study a forest stream, and open onto a broad overlook where the shape of the southern Appalachians becomes visible all at once.

Along the way, your guide explains what you are seeing and why it matters. One stop may focus on geology and the Flood. Another may turn to forest ecology, wildlife, or the remarkable diversity of the Smokies. A historic cabin, old road, or settlement may lead into the story of the people who have lived in these mountains. There is time to look, photograph, ask questions, and enjoy the park.

Why the Smokies?

Places like the Grand Canyon put an enormous volume of rock on display. The Smokies tell a different story. Much of the geology is clothed in one of the richest temperate forests on Earth, where rocks, water, plants, animals, weather, and human history are woven together across the same landscape.

Our guides connect these remarkable sights with the biblical account of creation and the Flood. You might discover folded rock layers at one stop, hear about salamanders and forest life at another, and explore the cabins and churches that tell the story of Appalachian pioneers.

The setting is different from the American Southwest where we got our start, but that is exactly the point. The Smokies allow Canyon Ministries to teach from an entirely different landscape and to explore questions that are best asked here.

Explore the Smokies as a Whole Landscape

Geology is only one part of the story. Our teaching connects the physical landscape with the living world and the people who have called these mountains home.

Bring Your Group Into the Field

Churches, Christian schools, homeschool communities, youth ministries, creation organizations, and other groups can turn a visit to the Smokies into a shared learning experience.

Group tours can emphasize geology, biology, history, or a broad overview of the park, and additional teaching sessions can be arranged around the tour. The goal is to give leaders an experience that is educational, memorable, and practical for the people they are bringing.

Sharing the Wonders of God's Creation Since 1997

A Different View Tours: Smokies is operated by Canyon Ministries, a Christian organization that has been a voice in the wilderness specializing in guided outdoor teaching since 1997. Our ministry began at the Grand Canyon, where guides have spent decades helping guests connect geology, natural history, Scripture, and the landscape itself.

A Different View Tours: Smokies brings that same passion for engaging teaching and memorable adventures into the southern Appalachians. We are not simply adding another destination. We are bringing years of guiding and teaching experience into a place that offers an entirely different set of questions, environments, and opportunities to learn.
